In April 2002, a federal jury convicted former Rep. James Traficant Jr. (D-Ohio) on 10 counts of corruption including bribery, racketeering, and tax evasion. Sentenced to 8 years in federal prison. On July 24, 2002, the U.S. House of Representatives voted 420-1 to expel him — only the second House expulsion since the Civil War and the first based on criminal charges.
