On February 20, 2013, former Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. (IL-2) pleaded guilty to conspiring to defraud his re-election campaign of approximately $750,000 in funds, which he and his wife used to pay for personal expenses including jewelry, fur capes, high-end electronics, celebrity memorabilia, furniture, kitchen appliances, and a home renovation project. Jackson also admitted concealing seven years of illegal activity by filing false and misleading reports with the Federal Election Commission and the U.S. House.
On August 14, 2013, U.S. District Judge Amy Berman Jackson sentenced Jackson to 30 months in federal prison. He was released from prison on March 26, 2015. His wife Sandra 'Sandi' Stevens Jackson, a former Chicago alderman, pleaded guilty separately to filing false tax returns and was sentenced to 12 months in prison.
