In September 2023, Rep. Bowman pulled a fire alarm in the Cannon House Office Building during a vote on a bill to avert a government shutdown. In October 2023, Bowman pleaded guilty in D.C. Superior Court to falsely pulling the alarm, was ordered to pay a $1,000 fine, and required to write an apology letter to the U.S. Capitol Police chief.
