🚨HIGH RISKcriminal

Ana Montes worked as a senior analyst at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), where she was considered the U.S. government's top Cuba expert. Beginning in 1984 — before she was even hired at DIA — Montes was secretly recruited and trained by Cuban intelligence. For roughly 17 years inside DIA, Montes fed classified U.S. military and intelligence information to Havana. Montes acknowledged revealing the identities of four American undercover intelligence officers working in Cuba.

🚨HIGH RISKcriminal

Montes was arrested by the FBI on September 21, 2001. In March 2002, she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit espionage on behalf of the Cuban government. On October 16, 2002, she was sentenced to 25 years in federal prison followed by 5 years of supervised release. She accepted no payment for her espionage beyond limited expense reimbursement — her motivation was stated as ideological opposition to U.S. foreign policy. She was released in January 2023 after serving 20 years.
